In dye-sublimation printing technology ribbons and PVC ID cards come in direct contact with the printhead potentially causing damage to the printhead itself as well as to the cards running through the printer, but with high-definition printing no direct contact is made with printheads, as images are printed on an HDP film that is fused to the card surface, rather than printed directly onto the card. HDP films provide an additional benefit of adding durability and protection to ID cards, by acting as a ‘buffer’ against everyday wear and tear, while also protecting against counterfeit attempts to peel apart card layers. With ID cards printed on the HDP5000 card images that are tampered with will end up completely destroyed.
